Raku Matcha Bowl

Raku Matcha Bowl

A Japanese matcha bowl, called a chawan, perfect for the preparation of a creamy and frothy matcha.

This is a traditional Raku style matcha bowl, a type of Japanese pottery that was developed for use in the Japanese tea ceremony. 'Raku' means enjoyment, and is a technique characterised by carefully hand-moulded clay and firing at a low temperature.

It features a cream glaze on the inside with a cracked appearance, which appears due to the reduction process in the kiln during firing, when the amount of available oxygen is reduced. The ceramic is removed from the kiln while still hot creating unique characteristics.

Origin: Lithuania
Dimensions: D 120mm, H 68mm
