Ash Glaze Teapot
An eclectic teapot built with traditional Japanese technique with a western take on the shape.
The western style handle offers a different grip to traditional pots from the East. Yet, the finish of ash glaze creates a mottled pattern and texture around the pot that can be widely seen in Japanese pottery. Glazed inside makes the pot very versatile to brew different types of tea, because it will not transfer the flavour to the pot. Ideal for serving two cups of tea and has a built in strainer within the spout.
Ash glazes have been used for over 2000 years and are made from the ash of various kinds of wood or straw. It can be applied in many ways to create a natural effect for an intended outcome. Handmade by Hikaru Nakada in Japan and each piece is unique due to the nature of the process.
