Gohonte Tea Bowl
Gohonte Tea Bowl

A simple stoneware tea bowl with organic circular patterns on both the inner and outer sides. It is suitable for all kinds of tea with a generous serving size, ideal for warmer seasons due to its shape and thickness being effective at cooling.

Skilfully hand crafted by master potter Sawa Houzan in a minimalist style. This unique pattern, known as Gohonte, is the the result of the reaction that occurs around pinholes in the glaze during the firing process in the kiln. The pattern is formed irregularly on every bowl and are typical of the characteristics seen in Hagi-ware. The base is finished with a thin layer of clear glazing to reveal the earthy nature of the clay.

Sawa Houzan took the name of his father when he inherited his kiln, continuing his tradition of creating beautiful ceramics. Together with his son in his hometown of Shigaraki, he makes beautiful pieces skilfully crafted and uniquely designed, and appreciated by many throughout Japan.

Origin: Shigaraki-cho, Shiga prefecture, Japen
Care instructions: Wash gently by hand
