Shirahana Cup & Saucer

Elegant small cup & saucer is ideal for sharing Sencha and Gyokuro in modest quantities with guests.

These can be paired with Shirahana Houhin teapot for serving on special occasions. Further artistic intention is applied by Hitoshi Morimoto to the flower petal like design. Its thickness becomes finer towards the rim and edge that brings a delicate touch to drink and to hold. The lower part of the cup is extremely well executed with his signature hand carving technique where each stroke forms a unique feature.

This Shirahana ware is known to be specific to the Japanese potter Hitoshi Morimoto. The neutral tone is achieved by his method of firing it in Kerosene kiln, which is differentiated to his other bizen ware that goes into Noborigama (climbing kiln). The result of his works are defined by the firing, the part that he enjoys the most throughout the whole process of making.

Unglazed stoneware and textured surface.

Origin: Okayama prefecture, Japan
Care instructions: Wash gently by hand
Dimensions: Cup - D 65mm, H 55mm, vol 55ml | Saucer - D 105mm, H 20mm
